There’s a reason Tunbridge Wells is often cited in the media as one of the happiest places to live in Kent.

It’s got everything you could want, all within easy reach. We have excellent schools, beautiful parks, woodlands and open spaces, lots of history and some fabulous independent shops, not to mention a thriving music and cultural scene. On top of that, it’s a short hop to the coast or to London by rail or road.

Tunbridge Wells is blessed with excellent primary and secondary schools, both state and independent. We have the grammar system of secondary education in Kent, so some schools use the Kent Test (also known as the 11+) as an entry system, but there are plenty of non-selective, mixed options too.

From glorious Tunbridge Wells Common to Dunorlan Park, Calverley Grounds, Hargate Forest and High Rocks, we are blessed with natural beauty. Not only are these wonderful places to walk and relax, but they play host to a myriad of different events through the year.

History

Tunbridge Wells was originally put on the map in 1606 by Dudley Lord North who was much refreshed and revived after drinking the water from the Chalybeate Spring. By the 1700s, noble folk flocked to take the waters, making Tunbridge Wells the place to be seen. The Pantiles were a favourite haunt and to this day remain a place to enjoy a slower pace of life. And you can still drink from the Chalybeate Spring, should you so choose.

Our High Street and the Pantiles boast some gorgeous independent shops, cafes and eateries. You’ll be spoilt for choice for somewhere to stop and take in Tunbridge Wells life, not to mention window shopping and perhaps buying.
